Another memorable Affair!

The ‘War Offshore’, otherwise known as the 21st Annual Ocean/Viking Showdown, culminated last weekend with Team Viking taking the top honors and bragging rights for the year. According to Viking’s team captain, Pat Healey, “this is a one of a kind event that is always a lot of fun and let’s John Leek and I spend some quality time with our owners. Of course we all take the fishing seriously, but in the end, it’s a great way to get together and enjoy the social aspect of our sport as well.”

Viking led the standings at the end of day 1 with 3419 points that included 14 white marlin releases, 1 blue marlin release and 29 tuna. This gave them the bragging advantage going into the Lay Day pool party. As John Leek IV and Pat grilled filets for everyone, the discussion of strategies for the next day’s fishing could be overheard at the poolside pina colada bar.

When day 2 of competition rolled around, the weather was better than forecasted which made for an enjoyable day offshore. The fishing turned out to be excellent for this time of year which worked in favor of the Viking team and put them over the top for the win.
That evening at the Awards Party, Tournament Director Bob Glover presented the coveted, Perpetual Showdown Trophy to runner up John Leek III to ceremoniously present to winning team leader Pat Healey. “We got it back this year like we said we would and we will again be proudly displaying it at our factory in New Gretna, NJ, for all to see!

Congratulations to all the winners (the ladies did outstanding!) and a sincere Thank You to all who participated and helped to make this year’s event another memorable affair!

The Teams are shaping up for the 21st Annual Ocean/Viking Showdown taking place July 7-11 at the Canyon Club Resort Marina.

Well, they did it! The Ocean Yachts' team and the Leek family said they were going to take back the perpetual Showdown trophy last year, and that’s exactly what they did. Put up or shut up, you’ve got to love it!  And, since they took back the top honor last year, their egos are definitely inflated. However, the Healey family says they’ll put an end to that on the first fish day! Pat and his Viking team have been vowing all winter long to take back the trophy! But can they? Whatever the outcome, we guarantee it’s going to be another great time!

There is still plenty of time to be a part of your manufacturer’s team!
If you would like to fish a fun and prestigious offshore event, then come and be a part of the 21st Annual Ocean/Viking Showdown and treat your family and friends to a few days of great fishing, great times and a really nice affair. Ocean Yachts Takes Back Perpetual Trophy in 2009

The 20th annual Viking Ocean Showdown ended Saturday night 7/11/09 with Ocean Yachts being the victor and taking back the coveted perpetual trophy from Team Viking.
Ocean led by only 164 points on the opening day, but expanded on that lead to 501 points on day two which sealed the deal. Gus Pasquarella’s Reel Gusto contributed 200 hundred points for there 2 whites and George McGinity’s Big Herring scored heavily with his 173 pound big eye.  The big story though had to be Steve Sweigert’s Anger Management which scored with a white, a tuna and 300 points worth of blue marlin to put a Viking win out of reach. The awards dinner of fresh seafood from the Lobster House Restaurant preceded the awards ceremony where custom rods and reels were presented to the individual and boat category winners, and finished up with the passing of the perpetual Showdown trophy from Pat Healey of Viking Yachts to Ocean’s John Leek III. It’s an old saying, but a good time was definitely had by all!
